Make a Choice You Can Explain
Eine gute Entscheidung macht ihre Gründe sichtbar.
Work through a real choice, challenge your preferred option and record the evidence, trade-offs and uncertainty behind your decision.
Who it is for.
Individuals and small teams making choices that affect other people.
What to bring.
Bring a reversible everyday decision or use a supplied case. Avoid decisions requiring specialist professional advice.
What you take away.
- An option comparison with criteria, evidence gaps and important trade-offs.
- A one-page decision note recording the reasoning available at the time.
- A review plan with a date and specific conditions for reconsidering the choice.

The challenge.
More information does not automatically produce a better decision. Practise reasoning when options have different advantages and the future remains uncertain. Make room for evidence that could change your mind.
What you do.
Define the decision, who is affected and what success would mean. Identify realistic alternatives, including waiting or doing nothing when those are genuine options.
Compare the alternatives against explicit criteria. Separate facts from estimates, challenge the strongest assumption behind your preferred option and consider how it could fail.
Write a decision note with your choice, reasons and remaining uncertainty. Ask a peer to challenge it and specify when new evidence should trigger a review.
Show what you have learned.
Defend your choice while stating the strongest case against it and the evidence that would justify changing direction.
